Tragic End to the Filly

Just got done watching the Derby….The Run for the Roses….it was a good race until it ended… We were pulling for Eight Bellies and you could see that couldn’t catch Big Brown but she did very well…then she broke both her front ankles. =( For those who followed what happened to Barbaro, leg breaks are pretty much a death sense for a horse…..and that is what it was for her, she was euthanized right on the track after collapsing. Of course, I’m still crying…….it is HORRIBLE to see a horse go down….I still can’t handle the replays on Barbaro’s break.

Hopefully, there will be no tragedies in the Preakness and Belmont.

The great one has left the building.

We only get 1 PPV a year now, mostly due to time and lack of interest in the current stories, but we will never miss a Wrestlemania as long as I live and WM 24 will be remembered for a few reasons, and hopefully not because 40 people got hurt during the grand finale of pyro. From top to bottom it was a well done show, even the Mayweather/Show “match” was interesting, Mayweather did a much better job of it then I expected and he took the fact that the crowd hated him since it was announced and made them hate him even more and in the end, everyone saved face and I think, Show looked better than he ever has, he did his job and did it well and in this business, that’s rare.

Undertaker is 16-0 at WM and was in a match that started off boring as hell but got really good, the Triple Threat match was ok but the finish was amazing, NO ONE saw that coming.

Ric Flair has officially retired from the ring and swore he will never wrestle again, and in a world where the motto is “Never say Never” I truly believe deep down I will never see Ric Flair wrestle again. His final match versus Shawn Michaels was probably the best match I have seen Flair wrestle in since Ricky Steamboat in the early 1990’s. There was 3 blown “spots” but the fact that most people only saw 1 just proves how great Ric and Shawn are at what they do.

24 minutes is how long a soon to be 60 and soon to be 43 year old man wrestled for. To break that down more, 8-10 minutes is average for a match, 15 minutes is a long match, 20 minutes is a very long match, so imagine what 24 minutes would be like and then add into the factor their ages. Yes, they both have wrestled 60+ minute Iron Man matches in the past, but neither has done that in a very long time. Trust me; those 4 extra minutes are amazing.

The standing ovation Flair got from the 70,000+ as he walked out of the ring and back to the locker room for the final time as a wrestler was amazing and you sure could see it on his face how much it meant to him.

The harsh reality of NCAA Sports.

This is a sad read for a once “feel good” story of last year.

Beautiful Sunday

It was a stunning day weather wise.  Sunny, clear and in the 50s…..a little breezy, but perfect.  Too nice out to stay inside, so I went for a walk today.  It felt good.

One thing I noticed the other day, that when we are driving towards home when Mt Hood comes in view it looks huge and it doesn’t seem that far, but when I walk it seems so distant.  I wonder if it is because the road that we drive is higher up then the road I follow when I walk.  Food for thought.

It is chilly when we get up in the morning, as normal mornings are, but it seems as if we never warm up.  Then it dawns on me, we usually end up in front of the computers so we aren’t moving…….so our circulation sucks and makes us cold.   But I didn’t have to worry about that today…….today is my normal attack the house.  Boy did that warm me up.  I like to vacuum just for the activity it gives me.  Then I did my walk and I’ve barely been chilled since.

I am also hoping that it will help fall asleep.  Activity is great for that.  I can’t wait for the wii…….that will help.

Our truck is as 99,998.5 miles…….I know it is goofy, but I want to try and get a picture of it at 99,999 and 100,000.  The only thing is that it is a digital………so I won’t get the turning of the miles, the old fashion enjoyment of it. I know, I’m weird…….lol

A Boilermaker won the Daytona 500!

**It doesn’t say anything about his association in this article, but Harold said that they were saying the Boilermaker won the Daytona 500.  So that was cool.  I honestly find racing boring………but I’m always happy when a Boilermaker wins……..it is the school pride thing.  =) Here is his wikipedia page : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Newman

My 15 mins…. sorta

Ok, this is dumb, but it made us laugh.

This story is about 2 college seniors who went on a year long road trip to meet who they consider some of the greatest basketball coaches of all time, so many great coaching names on this list: John Wooden, Rick Pitino, Coach K, Bruce Weber, Dean Smith and more. This is what they had to say about former Purdue coach Gene Keady.

Former Purdue headman Gene Keady invited them to his place in West Lafayette, Ind. After saying they were the first strangers to come to his home, Keady warned them his wife had a .38 revolver under her pillow, “just in case.”

Ok… When Pauline and I was dating, I worked at a fine jewelry store that use to be a surplus store for over 40 years, this place was huge and had tons of shit in it, the owner was one of those guys who could turn a dime into a million dollars so he was always trying new things etc and sent his son to gemologist school and started a fine jewelry section that eventually took over the whole store. When I started to work there the jewelry and a small gun department was downstairs and the surplus was all upstairs, a very unique place.

Anyway, Gene Keady’s wife and friend came in one day while I was in the gun department and after bragging to me how rich they are, she bought a .38 from me. Of course when she handed me the $500 bill to pay for the gun, the bill “stuck” to 4 other $500 bills… I so hate when that happens…. and of course when her friend bought a $12 clip for a holster her $100 bill “stuck” to 3 or 4 other $100 bills.

So the punch line from this, something I might have sold his wife made CNNSI!

I’m famous!
