Super Bowl XLI!
Tomorrow is Super Bowl 41 with the Indianapolis Colts vs the Chicago Bears and I can not even begin to tell how much I want the Colts to win. Growing up in Indiana with the local sports you get use to things like 13 losing years in a row for Purdue Football, hiring one bad/horrible coach after another. Getting all American talent, but having a coach so petty he will bench them to “make a point†and then black list them so their football playing days are over because someone believed a lying scum bag coach.
Purdue men’s basketball getting the #1 seed in the NCAA tourney and beating the #16 seed team by 1 fucking point on a last second shot, (closest 1 vs 16 in HISTORY) and never getting past the elite 8 (was in the Final 4 before I followed sports when I was 7 and they made the Finals before I was born)
Indiana Pacers were pretty much a playoff lock the entire time Reggie Miller was playing for them, I think they missed 2 years of his 17 year career, and made the Eastern Conference finals 5 of 7 years but just one appearance in the NBA finals where we lost to the Lakers 4-2)
Cub fans can relate to us as the official motto for Indiana Sports fans has always been “there is always next yearâ€. Back in 1994 Colts vs Steelers in the AFC Championship Colts down 4 and Jim Harbaugh throws a hail mary that was caught, but dropped for what would have been the game winning TD.
Last year Colts vs Steelers and Steelers up 3 and on the 5 yard line when Bettis fumbles (that NEVER happens) and Colts take the ball and run it back 62 yards and with 3 seconds he is tackled by the QB in a open field, but we are in FG range and have THE most accurate kicker in NFL history…. Who missed it wide wide wide right. There was no doubt in my mind he was going to miss; I just KNEW he would miss. Still, I was crushed when he missed and the Steelers went on to win the Super Bowl.
THAT is what its like to be a sports fan in Indiana.
We can get all the talent in the world and something, somehow, will go wrong and we will lose. Game 7 1998 Eastern Conference Finals, Pacers vs the Bulls, Bulls down 11 with 3 mins left and win the game and their 6th and final NBA title.
I can go on and on but I think you get the point. So I am nervous as hell, I really think we will win, but I just know the luck I have and the luck Indiana sports have.
We wanted to go to Buffalo NY to a friend’s house, but my foot stopped us from going. He has a garage that has been converted into a bar and it is a VERY nice bar, big HD TVs all over, real wood bar, more booze then you can imagine and packed full of people. The only bad things are most people are smokers and its Buffalo NY so it’s fucking COLD. We went 2 years ago and had a blast, it was in the mid 40s the 3-4 days we was there and the day we left they got drilled with cold and snow, so the timing for us was perfect. So there is always next year which we plan to make.
Tomorrow we have no big plans, again thanks to my foot, so Pauline and I will be watching the pre game which starts at noon and counting down the 6+ hours to kick off, we will be wearing our Colts jerseys and trying to settle down for the game, I’m sure I will toke some meds so I can be somewhat at ease before kickoff and I hope I can breath at least once or twice before the game is over.
4 hours is a long time with out breathing.

My Day
I came in from outside to watch the Derby. We don’t follow horseracing in general, but you can’t miss the big 3. Plus we’ve always loved the beauty and grace of horses. How can you not?
Today I just wanted to watch the race not all the stuff that runs up to it, cuz it was cutting into me getting some more sun. The things I do like to watch is when they show the hats. Kind of a throw back to an old era. I know if I got a hat for the Derby, it would be a wide brim one with blue & purple feathers and flowers and some of that fishnet type lace. Something that would catch your eye.
The Derby hats remind me of a book I saw once called Crowns : Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats. Now those women had style and class in how they expressed themselves.
The race was a good one with Barbaro winning. When they replyed the race from the angle of the blimp, it was really the best angle. It was cool to see how the jockeys guided and moved through the pack. And Barbaro out did them all, it was cool.
I did get some sun today, I think. Most of it on my back, mostly since I laid on my belly reading a magazine. I get too hot and restless to lay on my back sometimes. Now when i’m floating around on our raft in the pool, laying on my back doesn’t both me. I think it cuz the coolness of the water touching me helps me from getting too hot. I’ll try to get some more on my front tomorrow.
I didn’t go out without some protection. I used a lower SPF lotion. I wanted to get some sun, but didn’t want to burn. =) Looks like I didn’t cover the back of my thighs enough and left a few small spots that I missed on my back. I guess I’ll need Harold to help me with it tomorrow.
The sun is going down and I have my laptop set up on the patio. Harold is making dinner and I guess I really should start bringing my stuff in, but I really don’t feel like it. Even though the office is a nice one, it just gets olds and makes me feel trapped to be in there. Especially once the extreme heat hits, I won’t be able to handle being outside even with a pool.
I’ve always been one who likes to sit outside, ever since I could remember. Maybe that is why I’ve been missing fishing and camping here lately. And I don’t mean Florida style. When I think of fishing and camping, it is on a rivers in the woods……..Minnesota, Alaskan, Canadian style.
The only thing that is a downer when camping is the mosquitos and latrinas. I’m too much of a female not to miss that. If I was able to stand 95% of the time when I had to go, it won’t be an issue. It is about the only thing that I envy about men…….not having to sit down the majority of the time.

NFL owners approve six-year CBA extension
sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2360258
“…Labor peace was restored to the NFL when the owners agreed to the players’ union proposal Wednesday, extending the collective bargaining agreement for six years.
There were no further details on the agreement, including whether it includes expanded revenue sharing.
The vote was 30-2, with Buffalo and Cincinnati, two low-revenue teams, voting against it…â€
Thank The Gods!!!

Good News!!! maybe….
Also some good news on the Boilermaker’s home front, Jim Cheney the offensive coordinator for the past 9 years has left Purdue and joined the St Louis Rams as Off Line Coach. He has been the top of my shit list since he came to Purdue. So many times we have a so called “high power offense†and he calls weak conservative plays over and over. Short pass right, short pass right, run up the middle, punt, and repeat at the next set of downs, reminds me of the dark days of Jim Colleto’s 6 years where we played to tie, since going for a win is too costly and you may lose.
I can not begin to express the outrage of going to a game and watching the fastest WR in the Big Ten run 5 yards and stop over and over when he can out run the DB’s for the end zone if just once they had thrown it long. I know they can’t do this every play, but at least once a game would be nice and I’m not saying he is the only reason our team has sucked for the last 3 years, but he’s high on the list.
The new Offensive Coordinator at St Louis is Greg Olson, he was with Purdue for 5 years I think and left for the 49ers, but he was married to the Purdue’s woman’s track coach and she stayed at Purdue and after a year he asked Tiller to come back to Purdue and Tiller agreed, then after the next season he left Purdue unexpectedly for the Chicago Bears after telling Tiller he was at Purdue for the long haul, Tiller the calm cool guy he is, banned Olson from the entire Purdue campus and refuses to deal with him again.
When they announced Cheney was leaving, Tiller was in Ft Myers FL playing golf and the Defensive Coordinator Brock Spack said he had not yet spoken to Tiller so he has no idea who will replace Cheney, so it sounded like to me that this was totally unexpected, but I think it’s a great move, until they promoted Legg who was a offensive Coordinator at West Virginia for 2 years and VT for a year, so I am wondering how good he could be if he last only one year at VT and took a job as Off Line coach at Purdue?
Ok, everyone filled in on Purdue football now?
