More freaking hummingbirds…

I took these pictures today, the first few are from my morning walk, but while checking in some visitors a Costa’s Hummingbird showed up and since this was the first one I had ever seen, and the first reported one in over 2 weeks, I had Pauline bring me the camera and I took a few more hummingbird pictures.

I will soon be getting help for my addiction.

I am now caught up with my blogging. I like to take a few days off between post, but I always have that damn camera with me when I go out hiking and if I carry it, I use it, so I am forced to post more pictures, and that takes so much time to edit that after a few days of hours and hours of the same thing over and over, it wears on me.

So of course I still carry the camera.

We have another storm cell rolling in and Pauline is baking some bacon for BLT’s…

Life is good.

Oh, we have been here for 3 months and 3 days. We leave in 2 months. We still have not found another gig. We have time. Yet, we stress. We will be going back to the Northwest for sure, just we have no idea which way we will take to get there since we have a fast route, and the take our time route, it all depends on the when’s and what’s of the next gig.

Cat’s and Floods

I am once again playing blog catch up, so here are some random pictures taken July 16/17 2013.

Sakura and Drew Brees being their normal, weirdo selves. Sakura must see what is in every closed door and Drew LOVES to shred newspapers. Ok, so does Sakura. They are really good about it most of the time. They will only attack paper we put on the floor. With just a few exceptions to that.

Cat’s are weird.

Some Flash Flood pics, this was the biggest flood we have had while here, but due to eating dinner it was 45 minutes or so after we heard the start of the flood before we had a chance to walk out to see what was going on.

This was the first time we had seen the water on the trail itself, but it had already receded back into the normal banks by the time we arrived.

The last pic I think I took on a morning walk, it had just rained, so it was really fresh and new smelling.

The contrast of what this preserve looked like 3 weeks ago to now is drastic. From dried dead brown, to over growing lush green. We have been mowing more and more in the past week and I will be doing some more after we close the gates for the day.

Paton’s Bird House

*Pictures taken July 15, 2013

I have wanted to mention this for 3 months or so.

Just down the road from the TNC is Paton’s Bird House. From my understanding, The Paton’s had so many bird feeders out for such a long time, like 30+ years, that it has become a Birder’s destination.

They have some awnings and benches/chairs set up in the back yard, there is no fee, but they do ask for donations for sugar and seed. They also ask that you sign in. You park outside the gate and walk around the right side of the house and you will see a few hundred birds all at once.

No exaggeration.

The Paton’s have both past away, and the house is for sale, but the State of Arizona and the daughter of the Paton’s want to only sell the house to a BIRDER who will keep the tradition of the birds going since it has become such a legendary birders stop, that the State has hired the current care taker, Larry Morgan, to take care of the birds until they find a buyer.

Larry Morgan is from Mississippi and is a very friendly and knowledgeable birder and we have always enjoyed our conversations with him.

We highly suggest stopping by here when in the area, its a easy way to see many birds of many kinds.
