Notta here, just chilling out on a Friday night.
Of course until just a few hours ago I had forgot it was Friday night since our “weekend” is Monday/Tuesday here which keeps messing with me on what day it is.
Pauline is out on a “short walk” just in case there is a snake out there. I did the dishes and have my best playlist playing as I consume Vodka. Lot’s of Vodka. I Love Vodka.
Vodka!
I’m quite sure that is much funnier in my head then on the blog.
Pauline mentioned I had “my own story” to share when she was encountering the rattlesnake and I was going to write it out the last few nights but I was just too tired when the time came.
Since Pauline went on her walk, I decided to take our compost to the compost pile across the road , and while doing that, I saw an access road that goes up into the hills, was looking far more damaged then the last time I saw it, and since there was a new water tank recently installed up the hill, I better go check the area for flood damage.
I was wearing my flip flops.
I walk up this very rough “carved out of solid bedrock with a dull spoon” access road. Once I looked over the tank and was satisfied there was no damage, I took in the scenery.
This part of the preserve is about 100′ feet higher elevation, so it has incredible views of the preserve, but if I just walk that last 15′ I will be at the peak and that would be an even better sight!
I walk up the last few steps and the entire way, I am looking for snakes since everyone say’s dusk is the most active time for them and I was wearing flip flops. This is a very rocky area which I would think there would be a snake.
I stood on the peak for about 1 minute when I got a text from Pauline that said “RATTLESNAKE!” so of course I am looking all around me thinking OMG THERE IS A RATTLESNAKE before I realize she is not with me, and in fact, she is the one to see the rattlesnake.
I respond with “lol, get a pic?”
As she was writing me back I walked back down the access road watching where I step carefully since its declining elevation, rough rock, snakes, and I’m wearing flip flops when I realize, I walked off the path I walked up but was now in a drainage ditch going the wrong way.
I turned around to walk back up about 25′, when I looked at where my current “trail”was and where the “trail” I wanted to be on was located. I saw only about 10′ in elevation difference that if I just went straight between the two points and not walk up and down I could save time…
You can almost hear the “Looney Toons” music playing in back ground can’t you?
As soon as I planted my second foot on the “short cut” I realized, “I am wearing flip flops and now I am trying to somehow go down a very steep, very hard, very jagged rock while wearing flip flops”.
This would be stupid to do while wearing hiking boots, so I think I made the “Hey y’all! Watch this!” level of stupidity.
With all the texting Pauline was doing, I was holding my iPhone in my left hand when I started to fall and as soon as I started to fall I realized the iPhone will soon be smashed in half since that would be the first thing hitting the jagged hard rock so I did the first thing that came to my mind.
I sat down as fast as I could.
It hurt landing on that rock with my ass, but that saved me from being very messed up landing on rocks 10′ down and the cost of a new iPhone.
Not my brightest moment I will say that. But I got lucky. Just a bruised butt and ego, but over all I got off better then I should have.
I have also been doing some mowing and weed whacking this past week. Tonight I did both around the visitors area and out parking spot, mostly just knocking down the invasive “Johnson Grass” that has been recorded to grow here 17.5″ in 1 week time.
It looks cleaner here, but it won’t last a full week.
I can think of nothing else to say.
Later’s.
