Is Oregon anti-doorbell?

Mt_Hood

I know this is a really odd question, but since we moved to Oregon 18 months or so ago we have missed deliveries, neighbors and friends who have told us “We stopped by, but you didn’t answer when we knocked” and my first question is always “Did you ring the doorbell?” and so far 100% have said no.

WHY?

This is something that happens very often, so often that we are stunned that no one has used our doorbell even though it works and is lit up at night so there is no way anyone can miss it and yet, I can count on one hand the number of times our doorbell has been rung in the 18+ months we lived in the area both here and our first home.

We have a good sized house and we spend the vast majority of time in the office which is on the other side of the house so even when we don’t have the TV or music on, it is still impossible to hear someone knocking on a door.

So can someone give us an idea of why Oregonian’s have a phobia of doorbells?
