More stupid cats…

Torn_Rose

I had to take the wonder twins to the Vet last Friday for their follow up and final “kitten shots” which only cost another $200.

Tuesday I noticed Alexis, who is 14+ now and Pauline’s baby, was acting different and her meows were 100% different from normal, like scary different, so I called the Vet and scheduled a Wednesday appointment.

I could see she wasn’t feeling well, from everything she did from walking to meowing I knew she was sick, so I started to REALLY stress that she was “bad sick” and Pauline was in Indiana so how was I going to deal with this? And the worse idea came into my mind… “what if…” while Pauline was gone… UGH… Not anything I would ever want to have to deal with.

Wednesday I take Alexis to the Vet, and of course Alexis HATES cages and HATES cars (but she has gotten better in cars, so I take her out of the carry bag and let her sit on my lap as I drive) She has an hours worth of test to be done, so I go back home to find the wonder twins have destroyed what was left of Pauline’s xmas tree so I got very pissed and put the tree into the spare bathroom downstairs and decided Pauline can deal with the mess, I spent way too much time picking crap up off the floor for the week she has been gone.

I so HATE xmas trees…

I pick Alexis up and the Dr said nothing wrong was standing out to him, but the blood/urine test won’t be back until Thursday morning. Thursday the Dr called and said Alexis has a urinary tract infection, which is a major issue and could kill her quickly if not treated, lucky for us, it was caught very early so a single shot will take care of it.

I didn’t tell Pauline anything until I picked her up at the airport today at 10:15am, why tell her when she isn’t here and will just stress.

And the mystery of why Alexis lost 50% of her weight in the past 18 months has been solved, she has a hyperactive thyroid, so basically her body is running 100mph and she can’t eat enough food to balance it out. If ignored he gave her 6 months until she “blows a gasket” which is her heart or liver, treatment can give her another 4.5 years.

So now we have to take her to another Veterinarian who is located 15 miles away for radioactive iodine treatment, which means she will be a radioactive monster for 4 days, hopefully she won’t escape and create havoc, I would hate to think I would have to pay for Portland to be rebuilt.

The bad news is she will be in a cage for 4 days and we can’t visit since she will be a radioactive monster. The good news is this will cure her and they have live cams so we can watch and she should once again become the fat cat I am use to and miss.

The poopy news is this will cost $795, which added to the $380 for the first round of test and $46 for the shot and another $380 for the same test to confirm it’s done afterward and we got a cat who is worth too much.

I noticed the difference in Alexis demeanor last night and today she is so much better, she almost sounds like she always has, and she even feels better to the touch and now that Pauline is home Alexis is as happy as ever and demanding the attention she feels she deserves.

The other poopy news is our weekend plans to go to Vancouver, BC Dec. 26 for Pauline’s birthday has been canceled since Pauline doesn’t like the idea of being away from Alexis again, and doesn’t want to spend the $ since we are spending $1601.00 on Alexis which would be more than twice as much as we would be spending in B.C.

Stoopid cat… she cost me a good time.
