An American hiker stranded in the Bavarian Alps for nearly three days was rescued after using her sports bra as a signal, police in southern Germany said Monday.

Berchtesgaden police officer Lorenz Rasp said that he helped lift 24-year-old Jessica Bruinsma of Colorado to safety by helicopter on Thursday after she attracted the attention of lumberjacks by attaching her sports bra to a cable used to move timber down the mountain.

“She’s a very smart girl, and she acted very resourcefully,” said Rasp. “She kept her shirt and jacket for warmth, but thought the sports bra could work as a signal.”

Zach Continues..

Current mood: relieved

PropellerJust as I said I’d do I was up and down checking on Zack all night. At one point he scared the day lights out of me. I didn’t want to turn on their bedroom light so I was trying to see from the hallway light as I kept leaning in closer and closer- he very calmly says ‘yess?’ I jumped back and hit my head on the top bunk which he of course thought was just as funny as could be. Little booger. Anywho- A new day…we didn’t give Zack the meds we were sent home with the first time and would you believe that he’s feeling much better? Something should’ve clicked when Jessica noticed that the dosage they’d given Zack to come home on was the exact same dosage that Ed was given for his migraines but we’d assumed that these guys are professionals and they should know what they’re doing right? So the Er people were right which is why we didn’t give him the meds this morning. He was able to eat today and hold it down! He did get a little bit of a headache later in the day so he went to lay down for a little while and said he was feeling better. He’s still taking it easy and not over doing it-his food servings have been the size that a toddler would eat BUT I’m not complaining because eating at all and holding it down is progress…for both him and I. So hopefully things will get back to some what of a normal routine around here and everyone will cool back down so that our tempers don’t flare quite so easily. Nick even gave me a hug before bed tonight, which is something he very rarily does anymore being 13 and all.  What a hectic week-that’s for sure!! Maybe this one will be better. I was bummed to have to say goodbye to Shana today- that’s always the hardest part when family comes up to see me. But I greatly appriciate ALL of her help-Thank you Shana-Banana! Thank you Anita for providing the way! Hoping to come and visit everyone soon. Welp guys been another long day so I’m going to close and head off to my bed with the hope of really being able to truely sleep tonight-which I think just might be possible after a week of just resting. Good Night!

Saying Hi!

Alright, I’ve been horrible on updating here.  I know I update at least every 3 days, but I hate that.

Well let me update you on my workouts.  My trainer really worked my legs last Wednesday and I was feeling pain in my ass and back thigh muscles until Saturday.  Then my arms started hurting from Friday’s work just because my ass and thigh muscles were no longer hurting.  My arms were finally starting to feel normal yesterday and then I worked them out more today…more on the chest area, Fridays are the back.  Tomorrow is my cardo, 30 min on the hated treadmill.

Amazingly, even though I didn’t feel well enough for my walks this weekend, I lost the pound that I needed to lost by this Friday…….so now I need to lose another pound…lol  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

As I look at my space around my desk…I’m disappointed.  It is a mess and I hate messes, but haven’t felt like dealing with it…so sad.

Mom sent me pictures of the kids today on my phone.  Heather & Cheyanne were on roller skates and Charles was on a skateboard. I love seeing them staying active outside.   I don’t want them to have the weight and heart issues that are in our family.  They have enough of their own.

Now do you want to hear something screwy….Saturday we have beautiful comfortable weather, we loved how it got the right temp for the night while we had the window open and then it got chilly Sunday.  Today was ok outside, but left it chilly in the house…..but we are suppose to hit 90s Friday and a 100 Saturday!!!  ICKS!  I only want low to mid 80s!  We are so going to be sweating!  We are going to have to put both fans and our laptops downstairs and set up for those days.  With global warming, they really need to make AC standard.

We picked up the The Bucket List today.  That was a great movie, laughed our asses off and of course, I cried my eyes out at the end.

Got interrupted during it by a young cat in our backyard, that got Reggie’s attention.  Harold is trying to scare it out of our yard and to discourage it from coming back because of ours…..but it was so damn cute, had unusual markings,  and looked so soft, he was still a kitten.  So of course, I caught him and petted him very quickly, got a purr out of him and gave him to Harold.  As he gives me a dirty look………what can I say, I can’t resist cats….I love them.  And I want a kitten damn it!  =)

Religious Americans: My faith isn’t the only way

Nearly across the board, the majority of religious Americans believe many religions can lead to eternal life: mainline Protestants (83 percent), members of historic black Protestant churches (59 percent), Roman Catholics (79 percent), Jews (82 percent) and Muslims (56 percent).

By similar margins, people in those faith groups believe in multiple interpretations of their own traditions’ teachings. Yet 44 percent of the religiously affiliated also said their religion should preserve its traditional beliefs and practices.

“What most people are saying is, ‘Hey, we don’t have a hammer-lock on God or salvation, and God’s bigger than us and we should respect that and respect other people,'” said the Rev. Tom Reese, a senior fellow at the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University.
