Great Weekend Summary

We ran away to the Oregon Coast Friday for our 11th Anniversary Saturday.  It was a very good weekend.  We stayed at Seaside, Or and traveled to Cannon Beach and Astoria.

Seaside was nice, but reminded us of Indiana Beach/Santa Monica and the touristy type town that it was.  You can tell that it has been a tourist place almost since the founding of it.  We couldn’t believe how fine the sand is there.  We are use to the coarse sand of Florida and this sand felt silky for lack of a better word.  It was chilly and windy, so we weren’t going in, but a lot of folks did.  We did feel the water and it was warmer then we expected.

Saturday we headed down to Cannon Beach, for those who have watched Goonies, that is where you see the pirate ship of One-Eyed Willy sails past a big rock.  Which is funny because that movie takes place 30miles north in Astoria.   =)  But it was so cool to see.  We took pictures, which I will be posting as soon as I get time to organize them.

We then drove up to Astoria, because we wanted to cross the very long bridge to Washington.   In Washington we stopped at Ft. Columbia, an old Army Fort.  That was really cool to see, how things were built into the ground and how the wild flowers have taken over.  Then we stopped at Ft Stevens back in Oregon and you could see Ft. Columbia on the other side of the river.

I love visiting military posts, but that is the Army brat in me.  I would so love to go back to APG, MD to see the US Army Ordnance Museum there again.  I grew up cross the street from it and haven’t been there since ’84.

I totally blew my diet….icks…gained a pound, but it was worth it, it was our anniversary and damn it, I haven’t had a waffle cone in a long time…grin

We got back Sunday and it was nose to the grindstone, I had a ton of work waiting for me.  I finally got some time to work on our own things today.  I hope to be able to work on our pictures tomorrow.

Spent the last few hours watching political coverage and speeches.  Obama’s was outstanding.  Hillary, I think she is still coming to terms with it….because until a pundit mentioned it, I didn’t think about the fact that the Clinton’s haven’t lost since ’80….so they aren’t use to it.

**I’m no fan of this series, but this doesn’t surprise me at all…..in fact it sadness me.

Change We Can Believe In.

First of all, has anyone ever seen such a train wreck of a speech like the one John McCain gave? I mean holy cow, he was beyond fake, the crowd was beyond fake, and it was a terrible speech, it was full of “I’m Not George” but full of the same BS George has spewed for over 7 years. I for one am sick of “Fear” being used as a tool.

Hillary’s speech I think will back fire her and hurt her political career.

Obama’s speech was simply amazing… again… and again… and again.

His message of “Hope” far outweighs anything McCain can deliver, Mac is a true American hero and I will always respect him for that, but he is not the same man who should have won the GOP in 2000 and IMHO, I think he sold out which I will not forgive and cannot and will not support.

Obama will be the next POTUS, and for the first time in my life I see actual CHANGE coming, DC has become too corrupt to work and it needs to be tore down and built anew.

“We hold these truths to be sacred & undeniable; that all men are created equal & independent, that from that equal creation they derive rights inherent & inalienable, among which are the preservation of life, & liberty, & the pursuit of happiness; that to secure these ends, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever any form of government shall become destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, & to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles & organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety & happiness” – Thomas Jefferson
