A few weeks ago we found a few spots of dry blood on our leather couch, very small and in a “spray†pattern. So I looked over the 2 cats and saw nothing wrong on either, I just assumed they scratched themselves and shook their head etc, no biggie.
Yesterday we came home and found 2 pretty large areas of dried blood, and for sure you could tell it was sneezed there, I knew it was Reggie since he lives on the couch. I again looked him over and he looked ok, nothing I could see. So I told Pauline if it happens again I’d take him to a vet. So I come upstairs and start working on a friend’s hard drive that just crashed when I got the bright idea of Google-ing “cat sneezing bloodâ€.
Stupidest thing I’ve done in a while.
I freak out, and I Google local vets and made an appointment for today at 12:20. So I cage the boy up and put a towel over him and take him to the vet, after some paper work I get to see the vet and he looks exactly like Jerry Springer, glasses and all. He and his staff were the best vets I have ever seen, very professional, friendly and very calm and gentle with Reggie; they talked in hushed tones and made slow movements and were all around the perfect vets, I was and still am, very impressed with them.
I helped them examine Reggie and he did so well, he was scared, but wasn’t hissing or growling, which is a huge difference the last time I took him to the vet, he actually chased the assistant from the room the last time he was seen by a vet, he really put the fear of god into that poor girl.
They wanted to do some blood and urine test with some x-rays, so I sat out in the waiting room and within 10 mins the assistant came out telling me how well he was doing, not fighting or growling with them at all and 5 mins later she came and got me and the Dr showed me his x-rays and showed me that Reggie has a small bladder sand said that they wasn’t able to get any urine so if they need that I may have to take him back in. (Pauline had just cleaned the litters out before I left, so he marked the box as normal)
The Dr told me to not stress anything just yet. It COULD be a tumor, and it COULD be something is in his nose or just a cold. He has a small bladder, small kidneys and arthritis in his right hip and weighs 10 lbs, which is down from 14 lbs but that was 3+ years ago when he was last weighed, so not sure what to think about that.
Right now we are just waiting on a few specialists to look it over and the Dr should be calling me tomorrow afternoon with the results. He did say that many cats have lived years with nasal tumors and that the tumors were slow growing, but nothing could be done. He may have to get a camera shoved up his nose to look, which will cost $500 to $1000 but we will have to talk to the Dr’s first to see if the thinks it’s needed, he has some fluid in his lungs but that could be just a cold.
I caged him back up and brought him home, he barely uttered a peep from the moment we first got to the Dr’s office to when we got home, but the 3 miles drive to the Dr.’s office was pretty rough for him.
Pauline and I slept pretty rough last night, so I hope we will be able to chill out tonight and sleep well. I am still stressed, but I am trying to relax as much as I can.
And as for Reggie….. That little bastard is sleeping like nothing happen….
Stupid cat.
