Almost 3 years ago I bought Pauline some rollerblades for her Birthday, the idea was I was going to get me a pair and we would use them to get in shape and get outside and have fun. Where I bought them also had a few pairs in my size as well that day, but I did not want to buy them for me since “its her birthday†and not mine, so I was going to wait a few days/week.
Naturally when we went to get me a pair, they no longer carried my size, so for the past 2+ years we been on a half assed search for a pair that would fit me, we were looking, but not really “lookingâ€.
Well, my gut has been getting larger and larger so I wanted to get more exercise, so I finally found a pair on EBay for $30 which was a great deal, since they was used once and came in the original box that was marked $100. I tried them as soon as they got here not thinking ahead that I was still in my office at the time.
First time I almost died wearing rollerblades was on the kitchen tile trying to get out the door to the porch, the second time I almost died was trying to go around the 450+ degree gas grill Toni started to make us lunch, the third time was trying to not fall into the pool, the forth time was while trying to avoid the pool almost nailing the 7’ cactus and the fifth time was trying to turn “uphill†from the downward slant in the patio and instead going right off a 12†drop off.
I sat down and realized I just avoided 5 bad accidents and that I should not push my luck until I get some pads, and took them off and went back inside in my socks.
Yesterday we bought me some pads and today we went to the park and found a somewhat quite area and we taught ourselves to rollerblade and no one fell down, but man oh man, we both came close. We are both somewhat sore in odd parts of our bodies, mainly from swinging our arms like a chicken trying to fly so we wouldn’t bite the dust. We learned a lot today, but still have a ways to go to be worthwhile.
My feet hurt more then I thought they would but over all it’s not too bad. We are going back to the park Monday to get more time in, and hopefully we will soon be to the point where we can do 1-2 laps around the park, which I think is just under a mile per lap, the first thing we want to make sure we can actually skate and not wave our arms like chickens, then we will progress from there.Current Mood: content
